Athletics
Greek Week is a competition over the course of two weeks where our chapter competes with all Fraternities in competitions to determine the all around best fraternity (the arts, philanthropy, athletics, creativity, etc.). Throughout the 14 days of competition, Alpha Epsilon Pi excelled in multiple areas, including stroll, block design, and tug of war.
Like a storybook ending, our 2008 Greek Week status came down to the last day, the last event, the tug of war. If we placed in tug of war, we would place in the overall standings. Our entire chapter rallied together, and a few brothers really stepped it up, including Roman Zubarev, Shaw Levin, Brian Saunders, Avi Sinkin, and Scott Yesner, ultimately placing 3rd in tug of war, and 3rd overall in Drexel University’s 2008 Greek Week.
This is only the 2nd time in Delta Rho history that we placed, and 2nd time in the last three years. This shows how our chapter is evolving into an all around great Fraternity in general, as well as a chapter that will
produce many future leaders. The sky is the limit, and Alpha Epsilon Pi’s Delta Rho chapter plans to continue to grow to become Drexel Universities Greek Week Champions.
Alpha Epsilon Pi participates in Drexel University Inter Fraternal Council Athletics. Each year Delta Rho competes in such sports as football, basketball and bowling against other Drexel University Greeks. Participating in IFC Athletics helps build teamwork and brotherhood within our fraternity. Alpha Epsilon Pi also participates in athletic Greek Week Events during Spring Term at the Drexel University Annual Greek Week. Participation and sportsmanship is something that every brother values and practices when they compete in athletic competitions. The sports are both competitive and fun, allowing members from all fraternities to have a good time.
Thanks to the efforts of Rush Chairman Isaac Seidman, his committee and the entire brotherhood, we were able to have one of our best rushes in Delta Rho history. Congratulations to the Alpha Lambda Pledge Class on receiving and accepting your respective bids. The pledges have thus far displayed great promise for success in the brotherhood. They are learning a great deal of information and are spending a great amount of time getting to know all the brothers. Hopefully, they will continue this positive trend under the guidance of their Pledge Master Daniel Zimmerman and Assistant Pledge Masters Adam Prince and yours truly.
Athletically, Delta Rho has enjoyed some great success this autumn as the IFC football team went 4-1 in the regular season, earning us a No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Showcasing the dignity and pride held by brothers of this chapter, the Lions kept cool even in the face of blatant misconduct enacted by opponents. The team played with strong fundamental skills, teamwork, hustle and heart.
In other football news, the AEPi intramural flag football team made the Division B Championship. Unfortunately, our season ended in the final half of our game against TKE, in which they came from behind to defeat us by two points. The co-ed flag team, a joint effort between AEPi and Delta Zeta, lost in the Division A Championship to a top-three intramural team. Hopefully, with the addition of the Alpha Lambdas, we will be able to go further into the playoffs with our three already solid football teams.
The billiards team has continued its annual hot streak. After completing the regular season with a 3-1 record, the team is headed to the semi-finals, still undefeated in the playoffs! If Isaac Seidman can continue his incredible individual IFC billiards record (10-1), and pool sharks Jonathan Abramson, Epstein, Zach Riley, Ari Sagiv, and Brian Saunders can continue weilding a mean cue, we should have no problem breezing through the playoffs.
AEPi has great volleyball players in club-player and returning captain Ari Leeb, returning starters Jonathan Abramson, Even Epstein and Zach Riley. Because of their hard work and dedication, they were able to make the playoffs this year.
As Fall term comes to a close, get ready for basketball! Plans to order AEPi basketball jerseys are in the works! I am confident that with the continued support of the brotherhood, we will have another great athletic term this winter!
